The theme for the exam is: Perfection, Flaws Ideals and Compromises. I decided to redesign The Perks of Being a Wallflower for my final piece, this is a novel written by Stephen Chbosky. This is because I think the book fits perfectly with this theme as it covers a range of topics such as: drug use, mental illness, homosexuality, sexual abuse and violence. The main character Charlie starts high school and tries his hardest to be normal but realises he has many flaws, it is set in a diary entry form so gives a personal view. I will re-read the book so I can get lots of ideas for my final design. Due to there being a wide range of topics within the novel, I feel that everyone can relate in some way.
I am going to design 2 book covers: one will be a more pragmatic design using the title for ideas, mainly focusing on the noun 'Wallflower' and the other design is going to be a more poetic and oblique design. I want my book covers to have a lot of relevance to the story so it isn't too much of a mystery what goes on in the book. I hope to make my book cover interesting and different so that it is eye-catching for the reader and ticks all the criteria.
